“She” (2018) by Pfishova is an intimate yet monumental study of identity, framed within the boundaries of radical minimalism. The composition relies on a striking contrast between deep black and a light, nuanced background whose raw, coarse texture evokes industrial concrete or time-weathered plaster.

The centre of the canvas is dominated by a rounded, organic shape of black, into which the artist has embedded small, almost imperceptible fragments of plastic. This amorphous silhouette — hovering on the borderline of a graphic symbol, a cocoon and an anthropomorphic shadow — seems to fracture from within, revealing a bright opening to the viewer. The titular “She” is reduced to a synthetic form that disturbs with its fluidity; minor drips and micro-dots trickling down the canvas break the static composition, suggesting gravity, slow melting, or an emotional rupture.

Weaving synthetic waste into the fabric of the painting introduces a profound subtext. Plastic, treated by Pfishova as a contemporary signum temporis, becomes an integral part of the figure’s identity — a symbol of artificiality, burden and the micro-degradation occurring beneath the surface of the external world. It is a moving reflection on isolation, the condition of the modern woman, and the search for autonomy in a polluted, harsh environment.
